We are looking for an additional Knowledge Lawyer/Professional Support Lawyer to work with our market-leading Commercial team. The successful person will have an interest in data, digital regulation and related areas and provide a high quality knowledge service to that team and the wider firm.

This is a new role arising out of the success and growth of the firm and its future vision. It is a fantastic opportunity to join an experienced and well-respected Knowledge team, working in a supportive and collegiate environment. It would suit someone who was looking to move to their first knowledge role as well as those with previous experience.

You may choose to be based in any of our UK offices (Bristol, Reading or London) and join on a full or part-time basis (at least equivalent to 4 days a week). We are also very happy to discuss flexible working arrangements which are common across the team.

The opportunity

Knowledge is at the heart of Osborne Clarke's strategy, and you will be a key member of an innovative and purposeful Knowledge team.

You will provide dynamic, technically excellent and business-focused support to the Commercial team and wider firm, implementing best practice professional support within a fast-growing part of our business. You will complement the existing knowledge function and excellent knowledge culture across our UK offices and support business development and client relationship activities.

You will work collaboratively with the existing Commercial Knowledge Lawyer, the Commercial Partners and other members of the Knowledge team as well as sales and marketing professionals and Partners in other parts of the firm.

Like all our people, you will benefit from our multi-award winning development programme so that you are well supported and developed in your role to build a career in knowledge.

Our Commercial team

The UK Commercial team consists of almost 60 lawyers who work closely with our Osborne Clarke colleagues around the world.

The team provides leading-edge business solutions to clients, ranging from high growth start-ups to multinationals and covering the entire spectrum of commercial activity. We have a strong reputation both with national and international clients requiring support on strategically important commercial projects. We have considerable expertise in a range of key sectors including financial services, energy and utilities and tech media and comms.

Alongside our work for clients in traditional industries and sectors, we provide advice across our chosen sectors on emerging and disruptive technologies such as: AI, Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality, Livestreaming, direct to consumer business models, Blockchain, Internet of Things, 3D/4D printing, Autonomous Vehicles, Biometrics, 5G, eBusiness, Quantum computing, Robotics and Drones.

Key responsibilities

Your focus will be on the data and digital regulation aspects of the Commercial team's practice and you will have the freedom and responsibility to drive forward knowledge support in these areas in particular. Your work will be varied and fulfilling. You will carry out your responsibilities alongside the existing Commercial Knowledge Lawyer as well as others in the business.

Here are some examples of what you should expect:

  • Keeping the Commercial team, lawyers in other parts of the business and sector teams up-to-date on legal and regulatory change across the Commercial team's practice and on the Commercial law aspects of emerging and disruptive technologies.
  • Organising the delivery of legal training, facilitating know-how sharing and developing a technically excellent collection of template documents.
  • Assisting in the preparation of client seminars and client workshops and producing reader-friendly internal updates and client publications.
  • Dealing with queries from lawyers across the firm and clients regarding current law and practice.
  • Inputting into and helping to deliver the Commercial and Osborne Clarke knowledge strategy.

Skills and experience

You will have knowledge of UK data protection law and its application to real-life business issues as well as a knowledge of law and regulation in at least one of the following areas: Digital media, Digital regulation, Advertising, marketing and sponsorship, Consumer protection, Telecoms. You will be able to demonstrate that you understand the interplay between your areas of knowledge and emerging and disruptive technologies.

You will have an ability to present information clearly - both in writing and when speaking. You will be a pro-active self-starter with excellent organisational skills.

Due to the technical nature of the work, we are looking for someone who is legally-qualified with relevant post-graduate experience. You may be a fee-earning lawyer in private practice or working within the legal team of a business, in academia or in a knowledge role elsewhere, or returning to work after a career break. If you are unsure whether your qualifications and experience are right for the role, please do contact us - we are always happy to have informal conversations with people who would like to join our team.

Salary and benefits

We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
